Asian Wedding Hosted At Thornton Manor In Cheshire

So I wanted to write a blog about a typical or non typical delivery of a wedding cake. In Manchester we are not really used to working in temperatures exceeding 80 degrees, we are a city where most days it rains, which also sets up other challenges for cake makers but during an unexpected heatwave in summer can add a little extra stress in different ways!

The delivery for this particular wedding cake was at the amazing Thornton Manor in Cheshire.

If you want a spectacular fairy tale wedding then this is the venue for you. Situated in beautiful rural countryside, the A grade II listed Elizabethan house  was built in the middle of the 19th century. Its situated in the beautiful village of Thornton Hough in Cheshire.

If you want a spectacular fairy tale wedding then this is the venue for you. Situated in beautiful rural countryside, the A grade II listed Elizabethan house  was built in the middle of the 19th century. Its situated in the beautiful village of Thornton Hough in Cheshire.

The venue is host to the most amazing weddings and has various options of settings either in the Manor house itself or in one of the stunning marquee’s located in either the walled garden or by the lakeside, so there is plenty of choice for your special day.

The venue is just over an hours drive from Manchester, thanks to air conditioning the cakes arrived in perfect condition, I had managed to avoid a collision on the motorway which caused an hour backlog and unfortunately some of the guests were caught up in the traffic, sometimes these unexpected things happen. Thankfully the cake gods were kind to me and I managed to get the cake there well in time for set up!

Being at such a beautiful venue instantly calms the nerves and everyone is so accommodating, you meet the caterers and venue dressers and everyone has the same goal in mind to contribute to creating the most spectacular event for the Bride and Grooms special day.

The walled garden area is accommodates weddings from 200-2000 guest’s. The wedding I catered for was a beautiful Asian wedding with over 700 guests. The venue accommodates outside catering, as I was leaving the amazing aroma of spicy food was wafting through the air and the chattering of excited voices as the families and  guests were starting to arrive added to the wonderful atmosphere, it was just amazing!

The Wedding Cake Design

The cake design was perfect for the venue and setting, the salmon pink complimented the brides dress and she looked stunning. The cake was 5 tiers and the flavours were vanilla & salted caramel, lemon drizzle with lemon curd, traditional vanilla with strawberry, and 2 tiers of raspberry and White chocolate. The whole cake was covered in a layer of white chocolate ganache, then covered in sugar paste, for a beautiful smooth finish. The lower tier was covered in 24 carat edible gold leaf for that extra touch of luxurious glamour.

5 Tier Vanila & Salted Caramel, Lemon Drizzle With Lemon Curd, Strawberry, 2 Tiers Of Raspberry & White Chocolate

The third tier was created with ruffles and pearls and the flowers matched the venue dressing theme, which you can see in the picture, were beautiful orchids. The orchids on the cake were edible handmade with sugar paste and highlighted with gold.

Specializing in creating handmade sugar flowers it was great to be able create the moth orchids, they are fiddly and time consuming but really beautiful, traditionally roses or peonies are the go to flowers but adding a tropical flower such as orchids or lillies is a little different and I feel the trend for wedding cakes adorned with these tropical flowers will be more popular especially as our English summers seem to be getting hotter!
